讲座简介：

Nowadays, people talk about “data analytics”, “text mining”, “speech/image recognition”, “machine learning” (ML), and “artificial intelligence” (AI) as important analytical tools in solving problems in different areas such as healthcare, homeland security, marketing, and smart logistics and transportation etc. However, these tools such as ML and AI are quite wide in scope and can be viewed from different perspectives. In this talk, we present ML and AI development from the mathematical modeling’s perspective and show that stochastics (or probability) and optimization plays a fundamental role in developing these “analytics tools” in the big data era.

主讲人简介：

张哲，现任兰州大学管理学院萃英讲席教授，美国西华盛顿大学经管学院决策科学系教授，加拿大西蒙弗雷泽大学比迪商学院教授，以及加拿大英属哥伦比亚大学尚德商学院长期客座教授，并曾在斯坦福大学、哥伦比亚大学等短期访学。张哲教授是Queueing Models and Service Management杂志的主编之一，同时也是运筹与管理科学领域多个国际期刊的编委，已在Management Science, Operations Research, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, IIE Transactions, IEEE Transactions, Queueing Systems, Journal of Applied Probability等权威期刊上发表论文110余篇。张哲教授目前的研究方向包括将随机/优化理论扩展到机器学习和人工智能，在商业和工程领域开发数据驱动的定量模型。
