Richard  Karplus简介
Teaching Experience and Languages
2009 – present – Associate Professor of Finance at Silicon Valley University in San Jose.  Teach MBA courses in Corporate Finance, Investments, and International Finance.
2006-present – Teach professional development courses to tax preparers who needed to meet CTEC continuing education requirement. 
2005 – St. Mary’s College, Graduate Business (MBA) Program, Moraga, California. Lecturer in Strategic Management.
1999 – 2002 Institute of International Relations, Moscow, Russia.  Visting lecturer in Corporate Strategy, Oil Trading, and Economic Analysis of Investment Projects.
1980 – Columbia University Executive Program.  New York, New York. Lecturer in International Economics and Finance.
2005-2009 – Taught English as a second language in Baiyin City, Jiuquan, Linyi City in China. CELTA diploma in teaching English language to non-native speakers (2005).

2009 – 2010 – Advised on development of electronic data capture systems for clinical trials and analysis of clinical trial data for medical device start-up company.
H&R Block
2005 – present – Enrolled Agent.  Seasonally prepare tax returns for clients.  High in client referrals and returning clients.  Develop excellent client rapport. 
International Executive Council
2004 – present - Executive Director. Orinda, California. Consult for, and assist in locating other volunteer consultants for Chinese public and private organizations who have specific short-term requirements.
LUKoil (largest Russian Oil Company) – Moscow, Russia
2002 – 2003  – General Manager, Strategic Planning.  Moscow, Russia. Responsible for directing development of corporate strategic planning and analysis of all major new investment projects.
ConocoPhillips/Conoco
1998 – 2002 – Vice President of Business Development. Moscow, Russia. Responsible for strategy development, identification, evaluation, and negotiation of new business opportunities in Russia. Lobbied Duma and other politicians to communicate need for improved energy investment climate.  Evaluated potential acquisition opportunities in Russia.
1993 – 1998 – Manager, Strategy, Exploration and Production. Houston, Texas.  Responsible for development of overall exploration and production strategy and leading teams working with business units to develop regional, country and area strategies and financial plans to replace and grow hydrocarbon reserves.
1989 – 1993 – General Manager, Budgets and Plans. Houston, Texas.  Responsible for developing and analyzing the capital budget, strategic plans and 1, 5, and 10-year financial projections.
1987 – 1988 – Manager, Natural Gas. Stavanger, Norway.  Responsible for operation, transportation and sale of all natural gas reserves in Norway. Negotiated acquisitions adding over $50 million to company value.
1986 – 1987 – Senior Advisor, Policy Analysis. Oslo, Norway.  Responsible for analysis, position development and lobbying on all petroleum policy issues.  Significantly influenced major new tax legislation adding $100 million to company value.
1981 – 1986 – Director, International Analysis. Wilmington, Delaware. Responsible for economic and political risk analysis of countries where business is or will be conducted and analysis and development of company position on major international policy issues.  Prepared material for use in communicating company position to governments.
1979 – 1981 – Financial and Economic Analyst. Stamford, Connecticut.  Responsible for analysis and forecasting of macroeconomic and microeconomic conditions impacting business operations.

1976 - University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.  Passed Ph.D. qualifying examinations in Economics and International Business. Dissertation not completed.
